Car Seats in Orlando: Florida Law and the Easiest Way to Ride Safely

What Florida's car seat law says, why safety experts recommend a seat on every ride, and how to have seats installed before your Orlando pickup.

Florida's child restraint law requires a car seat or booster for children 5 and under in private vehicles, but it exempts hired vehicles such as car services, taxis and limousines. The U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration still recommends a seat that fits your child's age and size on every ride. The easiest way to do that in Orlando is to book a car service that installs the right seats before you're picked up.

What Florida law says

Under Florida Statute 316.613, children through age 3 must ride in a separate carrier or a vehicle manufacturer's integrated child seat. Children aged 4 and 5 may use a separate carrier, an integrated child seat or a booster seat. The law does not apply to chauffeur-driven taxis, limousines, sedans, vans, buses or motor coaches hired to carry passengers.

What safety experts recommend

NHTSA's advice is to choose a seat based on your child's age and size, make sure it fits the vehicle, and use it every time. It also recommends keeping children in the back seat at least through age 12.

How Gray Black handles car seats

  • Installed before pickup. Car seats and boosters are ready when your driver meets you.
  • Matched to your kids. Tell us each child's age and weight when you book, and whether a child rides rear-facing.
  • Room for the stroller. The 14-passenger van can tow a trailer for strollers and extra bags.
  • Happy passengers. The Premium SUV has screens with YouTube Kids.
  • Flight tracking. Your driver plans around your actual arrival time and meets you at the airport.

Other ways to get car seats, and their limits

  • Bringing your own: you carry the seats through the airport and install them yourself.
  • Uber Car Seat: one seat per car, so two children in seats may need two cars.
  • Shared shuttles: Mears Connect says car seats are not required on its buses.
  • Rental car: rent seats with the car or bring your own, then drive yourself.

What to tell us when you book

  • Each child's age, weight and height.
  • Whether a child rides rear-facing.
  • How many seats and boosters you need.
  • Strollers and extra bags, so we send the right vehicle.

Book once and ride together, with seats installed before you arrive.

Common questions

Do car services in Florida have to provide car seats?

No. Florida Statute 316.613 exempts hired vehicles. Gray Black installs car seats and boosters on request anyway, because a fitted seat is the safest way for young children to ride.

How do I request car seats?

Tell us each child's age and weight when you book online or call 407-349-8095.

Does my 5-year-old need a booster?

In private vehicles, Florida law allows a separate carrier, an integrated child seat or a booster seat at ages 4 and 5. NHTSA recommends the seat that fits your child's size.
